Then when it tried to look into history retroactively, it **hit an API rate limit** reading through files. ### Root causes identified **1. Memory not loaded proactively on session start** The bot treated the casual greeting as a simple conversational prompt and responded from general context + recent chat — not from the injected memory files. Memory should be pre-loaded and summarised at the start of every session, not retrieved on-demand when explicitly prompted. **2. Rate limit from on-demand memory scan** When the user pointed out the memory wasn't being used, the bot tried to read through the brain/memory directories reactively — hitting too many file reads in a short burst → rate limit triggered. Pre-loading on boot would avoid this entirely. **3. Two-phase failure pattern** - Phase 1: Generic response (no memory used) — wrong - Phase 2: Reactive scan → rate limit → hallucinated/generic again — wrong - Phase 3: After rate limit cleared, correct response using memory — too late ### What the correct behaviour should be 1. On any session start (including casual greetings), silently load the key memory files: `CHAT_HISTORY.md` (last session summary), `IDENTITY.md`, `USER.md`, `MEMORY.md` 2. Build an internal context summary — do not read every file on every turn 3. Answer greetings using that pre-loaded context: reference recent sessions, ongoing projects, personal details (cat, timezone, etc.) 4. Never do a full directory scan in response to a prompt — pre-load once, reference many times ### Fix to implement (future) - Joe's `entrypoint.sh` or OpenClaw boot config should pre-summarise memory into a session context block - Antigravity (kooker1) should be configured to load the brain summary on session start - Memory reads should be batched at startup, not scattered across turns - See kooker-architecture issue #5 for the broader aggregated memory vision ### Related issue `duikindiesee/kooker-architecture#5` — Aggregated Long-Term Memory System --- ## Session 23 — Graph DB, Timeout Extension, Workspace Mount ### Changes made to joekookerbot **1. Timeout extended: 300s → 900s** - `render-openclaw-config.py`: `timeoutSeconds` increased from 300 to 900 - Prevents rate-limit/timeout failures during long memory scans or complex tasks **2. Workspace mount: `~/workspaces` → Joe container** - `docker-compose.yml`: `/Users/irwinherridge/workspaces` mounted at `/home/joe/workspaces` - Joe can now read/write all Mac Mini projects directly - OpenClaw workspace path updated to `/home/joe/workspaces` in openclaw.json renderer **3.
